Who's buying blu-ray movies, or even DVDs these days? Netflix, all the
way!

Hear hear! I would at least be using my PS3 more if it had PS2
compatibility.

That's just a holiday special, though, like the Marvel/Forza one from
last year. Once those are gone, it'll be back to $200 Arcade models
with no games included.

Sony officials are still sticking to the "absolutely no price drops in
the spring" story... |

Fair enough, but the failure rates of Falcon should hopefully be a lot
closer to the 2-3%, as opposed to the 30%+ others were claiming with the
early models.

Well, lower heat is always a good thing for electronics. I don't think
you'll ever have a 100% failure free piece of electronic gear (especially
not at the consumer level) but hopefully failure rates will be much more
in line with industry expectations.

By shoving Kung-Fu Panda and LEGO Indiana Jones into the Pro and Elite
models, they're essentially giving you between $40 to $80 in games for free
if you go by what it'd cost you to buy those games separately. Not a true
price drop, but you're still getting more for your money than if you
bought everything separately.
I agree we won't see a true price drop on the 360 until Summer/Fall of
'09. There was a rumor out of Sony Europe about a price drop scheduled
for March over there. I can't imagine Sony not dropping the prices in the
US at about the same - especially after a punishing Christmas season.

I agree, I haven't bought one Bluray yet, but I've watched like 30
bluray movies already with my Netflix subscription (and my next 10
movies in the queue are all Bluray). The difference is notable, but
you won't notice it until you see it, which I'm afraid most people
haven't. You can't show the difference in a TV commercial for obvious
reasons, so they can only tell at a store, which is difficult to
notice.

You know, that's what I thought too, so I got a used 60GB PS3 in
craigslist, great price too, but I still haven't put a PS2 game in

Problem is at most stores, their source is usually that compressed digital
demo on a hard drive, and the TVs are connected to massive component video
splitters. Mmm. The HD really lets you enjoy the grainy video! In some
cases, they don't even have the proper aspect ratio setup, so you get all
sorts of weird clipping problems in addition to a relatively poor video
demo.

well, the same deal is offered over here, this year's "entertainment
pack" is KFP+Lego Indy+Wireless Pad and is being bundled with just
about every new 360 sold.
however, a lot of retailers here in the UK have been selling this pack
seperately. You can currently pick it up for £19.99 from several
sources, which is a ridiculously good deal since the pad's themselves
usually retail at £30 or more.

Sony's policy in europe has been nothing short of shameful, frankly,
and is why i have still held off buying a PS3.
They never cut the price, they just try and fluff the deal out by
adding a slightly larger hard disk, or throwing in a couple of old
games and claiming it's as good as a price cut, which it isn't at all. |

I could be wrong but doesn't the ps3 HAVE an adapter for ps2 games ?
If they don't they WOULD be stupid !
I play MLB '06 (for ps2 .)
Two teams ...the Cubs and the Tigers .
At the rate of about one game a week it'll be MONTHS before
they get to the play-offs !
So what are ps2 players who have time "invested" in certain games
supposed to do ?
Switch back and forth between consoles ?
Wait ...you said "removal" !
of the adapter ?
That WOULD make them morons !!! |

I just looked around the internet ...there IS an adapter that you can
use to plug your ps2 CONSOLE into the ps3 AND still use your
ps2 controller ...but what the hell ...is the game picture going to
improve ?

No there isn't. I have no idea what it is you have seen, but nothing
like that exists.
The initial generation of PS3's played PS2 games, but this was costing
Sony too much money so they took it out.
Sure, it is stupid but I guess they were losing so much money on each
console sold they had to save costs somehow. |

Sigh. you don't *have* to buy it, I have one but never use it since it
is connected via cable - oh and the retail price has gone down you can
find them frequently for £40 now

again not essential, I used my 360 for well over a year before even
bothering to upgrade from Silver live - which *is* free - to gold,
which only cost me £25 not £40.
My son plays is not even connected to the net on his, he just plays
Transformers all the time which is not even a multiplayer game!

and still 1 more controller and 2 more games than the PS3 - whether
you think the PS3 is good value or not when somebody walks in the shop
and sees the PS3 at double the price of the 360 at virtually identical
performance then is it any surprise they go for the 360?
