Does anybody know of a decent B-757 that's free? I saw something on
Project Open Sky but I can't tell if they're full aircraft or if they're
just modifications.

Hi Vernon

The Project Opensky B757 has a base model if my memory serves me correct
and you need to download this (probably with a few textures included)
and then download textures for the ones you wish to fly. If unsure
download one you want and if its not the full thing then get the base
model. If you search some of the usual flight sim sites you can often
get them with full aircraft data. BTW, the Posky B757 is a very good
model to fly IMHO.

Ah, okay. It's not where I thought it would be. I had to search a
little. But there is a problem that I don't know how to deal with. The
README.TXT file tells me to copy the gauge file into the appropriate
folder, but I don't see one.

I can only speak for FS9 Vernon, where you have two choices. You can either
put the contents of the gauge file for your a/craft into the panel folder or
into the main FS9 gauge folder. Many people prefer the first option so if
they decide to delete the aircraft their main gauge folder doesn't get
filled with unwanted gauges. I don't know if this is the same with FSX.

I do have FS9 (I got it so I could access all that stuff that isn't
available for FSX) but the problem is, I can't find the gauge file!
Where is it?

Well,

I did not know that. Put the contents of the gauge file into the panel
folder? I've always dumped them in the gauge folder. Should have known that
before, just because of the reason you mentioned. On the other hand, all
them gauge files have not bothered me yet. The gauge folder is only 574 MB.
Conclusion: I've learned again.... (I know, I know... I still have a lot to
learn Smile)

I think you misunderstand. It's the actual gauge file that is supposed
to come with the a/c that I can't find.

Ah! Yes I misunderstood, sorry. I assume the a/craft file was zipped and you
have unzipped it, having ticked "use folder names". Sorry, I'm telling you
something you well know already. It comes to this Vernon. If there isn't a
gauge file then the author has omitted it. Have you checked in the panel
folder to see if it has been put there (the Readme may be wrong)? If there
are gauge files in there you can leave them there.

Bottom line - install a/craft and see if there are any gauges missing.
You've nothing to lose but your time. Smile

Hi Iain,

There's one caveat to that:

Sometimes gauges come as sub-folders which contain .xml files, and .bmp
files.

In these cases, the sub-folder should be kept intact, even though the
sub-folder itself can be put in either the panel folder or the main FS9
Gauges folder, as you say.

John Ward

Hi Vernon,

Sometimes, the gauges are inadvertantly omitted from the downloaded
aircraft package. If so, you could try emailing the developer...

Other times, the gauges are included (somewhere) as a .zip file, in
which case the .zip file needs to be expanded out by unzipping it...

Well, the aircraft appears to have gauges, but not VC panel, but there
is one that's downloadable, so that doesn't bother me. It's just that
the README specifically said to move the gauge file to the appropriate
place and that confused the heck out of me. Based on what Iain says, I
suspect boilerplate with not enough attention to appropriate edits.

You're quite right John, a point that I'd overlooked. Smile
