This is to show how dopey those turds like Jackass Jordan and Dung
Jacobs can be. They latched on to this "Duh Blur-rayz kantz kumpeetz
wid duh DVD" mindset, as if it made any sense in the first place. The
reality is that DVD sales have been declining for quite awhile and it
was a concern for the movie studios. Now, the sales data is showing
Blu-ray sales are growing rapidly and more than making up for the
declining DVD sales. In another year, Blu-ray HD sales will be a good
percentage of overall video sales.

Blu-ray Sales Up 351%
April 18, 2008

One of the reasons movie studios are hoping consumers adopt Blu-ray is
in order to offset continually declining DVD sales. Since they
plateaued three years ago, DVD sales have slowly decreased. The first
quarter of this year was no different, showing an overall drop in DVD
sales of 1.2% from Q1 2007. However, Blu-ray sales saved the day -
just as studios have hoped they would - and when combined with DVD
sales resulted in an overall increase in sales of 1% over last year.

Steve Beeks, president and co-COO of Lionsgate commented, "Blu-ray had
its second-best week ever in the seven days ending March 23, and we
anticipate Blu-ray sales of $800 million to $1billion-plus for all of
2008, up dramatically from approximately $300 million last year."

With the format war now over, studios are looking forward to the rest
of the year as more and more consumers adopt the high definition
format.

I think 10 years from now DD will be huge but not until then. The net
worldwide just isn't ready for it. I'm not even sure 10 years from now the
net will be where it would need to be to replace physical media. Just look
at how long it took to go digital with TV broadcast. I remember back in the
mid 90's they were saying early 2000 and here it's going to be 2/09 before
it happens.

I disagree. 95% of the population won't be able to do that digital
download thing, not now, not in 2-3 years. Now when Bluray players
drop down in price for mass market, people will be using Bluray. Even
me, who is part of the 5% that can do digital download, prefer bluray.

Japan has been there since the mid to late nineties. Add to that also, that
Japan has the fastest average broadband connections in the world (30/10mb
avg in the big cities there.). I remember looking at the first HDTVs
available for purchase here back in 95-96. They cost about $6-8K for just a
36" tube, it was way out of reach then for the typical consumer, but more
than that, it was out of touch. Nothing back then would run in true high def
in any format, let alone anything being broadcast.

This article suggests that Blu-ray accounts for 20% globally of movie disks.

Well "the grid" could change things Smile

But I agree, that's years off and Blu-ray will earn billions of $ between
now and then

They aren't downloading pirated games. GT5 is available for purchase
at the PSN store and the MGS4 online is for beta testing.

10 years from now, urban dwellers may be at 100mbps, but out in the rural
countryside, they'll still be struggling with 56kbps.

Unless the government decides that the internet infrastructure is as
important as the highways in our country, this digital divide is just
going to grow wider and wider because the companies don't want to be
bothered with a few thousand customers scattered across the countryside,
when for the same investment, they can service 100x the customers in one
city.

Yup. The servers couldn't handle the amount of people that were trying to
get in. Konami should've been ready for this. They said it will be ready in
4 days. I was just going to give it a try just to see how the graphics
were.

Back to GT5P for now. Only 8 days to go for the next major disappointment
Wink.
