I have a Series3 HD, and there are several programs I record in standard
resolutions, where the content is shown letterboxed.
This leaves black bars at the top and bottom of my Samsung 750 16:9 HDTV. If
I change the aspect ratio on the TiVo to "Zoom", it zooms in too far, cutting
off the top and bottom of the picture.
Every letterboxed SD program I've seen uses an aspect ratio other than 16:9,
which means the TiVo is always chopping the image.
I tried setting the output format to 1080i Hybrid, which tells the TiVo to
send a 720x480 signal to the TV, then using my TV's aspect controls, but the
best option it had ended up with a complete but vertically stretched image.
Any ideas, short of waiting for TiVo to add something as simple as a zoom
option, or automatic bar detection (which is extraordinarily simple, from a
programmatic standpoint)? |

Sounds like you have the "Aspect Correction Mode" set wrong. I think
its
located in Settings>Video section.

There's a button right on the remote to cycle through them. I don't have it
set wrong - there's no right setting. "Full" stretches the whole image,
letterbox bars and all. "Panel" leaves the image along. "Zoom" has the
problem described above. |
