Is everyone's unit reporting that the current activation ends on 8/2?
Tried calling last night and got hung up on by the automated system at
3-minutes to 8 ET (in other words, they dumped everyone in the queue at
5pm PT--the time that support hours end).
Can't log into the website to verify my account--reporting password
issues. BTW--someone in AVS Forum pointed out that the link on the
support page for the customer login is wrong: remove the "s" from
"https" (guess they forgot to do something for their SSL certificate). |

Apparently with the buyout by DirecTv, they are moving servers around
and DNS has not updated across the web. Plus the web has been plagued by
DOS attacks lately, slowing things down. Many people are calling
customer service and the phone queue is huge. |

The buyout does not affect ReplayTV hardware owners. DNNA still retains
the revenue stream and support for those. I believe Direct bought the
intellectual property because as soon as FCC mandates cable companies to
comply with the new cable card specs, it will be feasible again for mfg
to build DVR equipment again. Right now, Tivo sues anything resembling a
non-captive DVR with "we invented recording to hard disk" mentality. It
is not worth the hassle for most companies to build units with no
standard requirement for tuning access and the possibility of a nuisance
suit by Tivo for only small financial gain. By acquiring the Replay
intellectual property Direct can offer a multi-room DVR w/o having the
possibility of a nuisance suit as Replay predates Tivo and there was an
agreement between the 2 not to sue each other. So I guess Direct is
hedging bets that the FCC will mandate the new bidirectional cable card
and they will be able to offer a Replay interface and features to
compete with the absolutely lame Tivo product. |

I hope your guess is right... and, if that happens, that DTV produces
something backward compatible with existing units (unlike what D&M did
with the PC-edition) and can beat the bat-snot out of TiVo...
As for the current issue: I'll see when I get home from work if any
thing's changed on my three units... |

That will never happen with the 4Ks. It would be relatively simple with
the 5K files, but is doubtful they would exert the effort to add the
code for only 100,000 or fewer users.

I've been trying to call since this morning to update my credit card info.
Not because of any problem with the RTV, but because my bank just issued new
cards to everyone. The auto-answerer just told me the wait would be 55
minutes and that I was caller 25 in line. I knew something must have been
up so I came here to look. Sure nuff. I think I'll wait a couple of days
and try again. LOL

Got home today from vacation and all units are reporting activated
through 9/2 and channel guides are up-to-date... Guess the crisis is
resolved...
Now... to find a new cable company (RCN just jacked my rates 20%!) |

Tell them you are switching to DTV. They'll tell you you qualify for a
new "promotion". |
