I'm trying to decide between Forge of Freedom and AEGOD's ACW game. I
know the latter was well loved. But I didn't do that well with the
original Birth of America game. And I played a few turns of Forge of
Freedom.
So is AEGOD's ACW: The Blue and the Gray really all that much better
than Forge of Freedom? (And while we're at it, what about the Grigsby
title on the same subject?)

I enjoyed Forge a lot more...I've tried all the AGEOD games and I
really don't like them as much as a lot of others. |

finbogey,
I'm not sure if you've seen it or not, but over in the FOF forum some
time ago I created an "index thread" in which I provide links to
threads with substantive discussions comparing FOF with one or more of
the other two games. If you look at a bunch of them I think you'll
come away with a pretty balanced perspective on the pros and cons of
each game.
Here's the link: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=1503227 |

I can only speak for the AGEOD's ACW game. It's a solid win. you'll
love it. the support the AGEOD folks provide for it is top notch.
I have SPI's Battle between the States board game, and the AGEOD ACW has
all of the elements I loved from that board game. |

If you enjoy more micromanaging and more detailed battles, then FoF is the
way to go. If not, ACW would be a better choice.
I myself liked FoF more than ACW. I liked how the user could do research
and arm the troops differently, depending on purpose.
There's much more to do in FoF-- the game is a bit more complex. ACW does
most things for you.

Thanks for the links Eddie. I'm not usually interested in Civil War
games, but I played a few turns of FOF a while ago and had a good
time. And everyone was raving about the Aegod game last year. Now
you've made my decision harder. Thanks!

Thanks for the links Gil. Looks like they're two very separate beasts.

Hi Gil-
I imagine I'll probably end up with both down the line, but I'm
starting with FOF (downloading right now).
Thanks again for the links.

Fin,
Good to see. Thanks for letting us know. Do drop by the forum for
pointers, questions, etc.
And I agree that you should not limit yourself to just one: from
everything I know, the competing products are also very much worth
getting. |
