Archived from groups: alt>video>ptv>replaytv (more info?)

Hi,

I am using the 5500 with my cable box via IR Blaster. When I change
channels, the 5500 will blank the screen and show the channel info for
the one I am changing to. But before it changes the channel, it briefly
shows again the current cable channel. I find this a little irritating.
Is this normal?

TIA,
Dan

It's funny, but with five ReplayTV 5000 boxes in the house, I've never
noticed what the live TV channel changing delay is because we never watch
live TV with a ReplayTV. I do know that there is a long delay while the
ReplayTV buffers up the live show - I've read about that. So, do yourself
a favor. Don't watch live TV with your ReplayTV. If you want to watch it
live, just use the TV set.

Bye.

Being able to "pause" live TV and answer the door, the phone, separate
fighting cats, etc., is one reason I own three RTVs (two 5040s, one 5504).
I find that changing channels via the Guide avoids some of that delay. If
you just channel surf, the delay does get a bit annoying. But not enough
that I'd give up watching live TV. Sometimes I even press pause and go run
an errand. Can't do that watching TV directly through the TV set.

Regards,

Margaret

Yes, the idea of being able to pause live TV is an interesting feature of
the ReplayTV. And while you may enjoy that feature, I find that time
shifting is the only way we use ours. I watch my "space aliens" on weekend
mornings and late afternoons during the week. That's not when they're
originally on, of course.

In fact, in the years we've had our ReplayTV boxes, I've watched live TV
maybe once or twice a year. To each his / her own.

Bye.
